Pennsylvania
For the the first half of 2010, Pennsylvania policy (Act 213 signed into law in 2004) mandates every licensed electricity supplier to obtain 6.712% of their electricity load from renewable sources, which is comprised of the following:
- 2.5% Tier I Renewable Energy – this includes solar power, wind power and certain kinds of hydropower and geothermal energy.
- 4.2% Tier II Renewable Energy – this includes energy derived from waste coal, large-scale hydropower and municipal solid waste.
- 0.012% Solar PV Requirement – this includes output from other clean heat to power sources.
Viridian exceeds this required 6.712% renewable mix by an extra 13.288% backed by Green-e certified Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) purchased in the voluntary market from renewable resources located in Pennsylvania and the PJM Region and/or adjecent regions (MISO RT, NY ISO).
This voluntary REC component is comprised of renewables that are generated in the calendar year in which the product sold, the first three months of the following calendar year, or the last six months of the prior calendar year.
All voluntary RECs purchased by Viridian are Green-e certified.
Finally, Viridian is in the process of developing a Green-E certified 100% renewable rate plan.
